The former City coach addressed his players ahead of what turned out to be a 1-0 win over Norwich City in their fourth league game, and the pressure on his pre-match speech couldn’t have been higher.
Many a manager would have come out swinging, sensing their Rocky moment and trying to give a screaming match of a speech in the hope that the players would be fired up to go to war.
But no, Arteta did something far more powerful than that by giving a speech straight from the heart, talking about everything from high performance in the emergency services to his gratitude for friends, family and the squad.
