Few boxers are having a better time this year than Oleksandr Usyk as the Ukrainian has just beaten Anthony Joshua to become heavyweight champion.
In an interview he posted on his YouTube channel, he expressed that he does not have much left as a professional and aims to have three more fights, surprisingly revealing that he wants to take on Canelo Alvarez as an opponent.
Is a fight against Canelo viable?
Although the two are among the best boxers in the world, they are both in different categories and a fight between them would be unlikely.
Usyk weighed in at 221.5 pounds against Joshua, while Canelo was at 167.4 pounds in his last fight against Gennadiy Golovkin.
“With Canelo he said he wanted to fight me. It would be a rare fight just to make money,” he said.
Still, the Mexican could have other plans in mind, such as a rematch with Dmitry Bivol.
He also wants Fury
After defeating Joshua, rumours of a fight against Tyson Fury began and the Briton wants to fight this year, while the Ukrainian said it would be for 2023, which did not please the ‘Gypsy King’.
But Usyk doesn’t want to retire without first seeing himself in the ring with Fury.
“I just need to beat Fury and then it’s time to retire,” he stated.
“The unification of all the belts is much more important than just one fight or another defence.”
