Martin Odegaard has sent Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City heading into Christmas after scoring both goals in the 2-0 win over Wolves.
The Citizens were stunned by Brentford earlier on Saturday as Ivan Toney’s double ensured the Gunners would go into the World Cup at the top of the table.
And Mikel Arteta‘s side seized on their opportunity to extend their lead over Pep Guardiola’s side after grinding out a hard-fought at Molineux.
It was the perfect response from Arsenal following their Carabao Cup exit midweek where Brighton eased to a 3-1 win at the Emirates.
But the north London outfit were made to work for the three points, with Granit Xhaka going off early in the 16th minute through suspected sickness.

The Switzerland skipper was replaced by Fabio Vieira, who created the goal for Odegaard in the 55th minute.
A fast free-flowing move saw Gabriel Jesus slip in the Portuguese midfielder down the left flank.

He then dinked the ball across the six-yard box over the onrushing Jose Sa where Odegaard tapped home from close range.
And Odegaard grabbed his second of the night 21 minutes later after great work from Gabriel Martinelli and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Martinelli played in the versatile Ukrainian down the left flank, who whipped in a fizzing cross into the box.
The ball fell to Martinelli, who was denied by Sa, with Odegaard rifling home the rebound from ten yards out into the bottom left corner.
It is now 11 games without a goal for Jesus, who once again missed a hatful of chances.
