Troy Deeney has urged Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to sign a new striker in January as he doesn’t believe Eddie Nketiah is good enough to take Gabriel Jesus’ place in the side.
The Gunners have been in sensational form this season. They’ve lost just one of their first 11 games in all competitions and are sitting on top of the Premier League table at the moment. Gabriel Jesus is one of the biggest reasons why they’ve been so good.
Troy Deeney says Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah does not fill him with confidence
Nketiah was one step away from leaving Arsenal at the end of last season. His contract was up and it took a while for the Gunners to tie him down to a new deal.
The Englishman’s fantastic form at the end of last season played a big part in convincing the Gunners board to offer him a new contract. He accepted the second-choice role at the club following Jesus’ arrival, and he’s yet to start a game in the Premier League as a result.
Deeney, like almost everyone else, has been raving about Jesus, but he’s worried about Arsenal if the Brazilian gets injured. He feels Nketiah is just not good enough to replace the Gunners number nine over a long period of games.
He said on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel: “I still think they (Arsenal) need another striker.
“I like Eddie, but he doesn’t fill me with confidence. If Jesus goes out, I can’t put him in for 15 games and he’s going to get you the goals.”
