Arsenal could join the race to sign Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries and this is fuming Antonio Conte, the Tottenham coach.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Gunners are considering joining the already increasingly crowded field of teams keen on signing the Dutchman.
Dumfries has increasingly been linked with a big money sale away from Inter, who could decide to cash in on the 26-year-old former PSV wingback now that he is at peak value, with a big sale still needed to meet financial targets.
Chelsea have been among the 26-year-old’s most persistent pursuers, having already tried to sign him during the summer transfer window, though without success.
Meanwhile, all of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Bayern Munich have also been linked.
Conte likes very much Dumfries and wants an RB in january, since Emerson Royal has been failure. This is why he is mad with Arsenal. Tottenham have been interested on him since summer but Arsenal could get him in january.
Arsenal as well are thinking about joining their London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham in the race to sign Dumfries, and Inter could be hoping that the increased competition only drives his price up.
In the latter’s case, rumours have surfaced suggesting a swap deal involving Takehiro Tomiyasu. It would mean sacrificing someone they only signed in 2021, but it might represent an upgrade.
What’s more, it would ensure Dumfries would not strengthen one of the clubs looking to catch Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table this season.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal would not be able to win the race for Dumfries by merely giving up Tomiyasu.
Instead, Inter are holding out for a significant windfall before parting ways with the Netherlands international.
“Inter Milan are not looking for swap deals for Denzel Dumfries, as things stand. Big money or nothing, this is their stance – and the absolute priority is to keep Dumfries at least until the end of the season,” Romano told Caught Offside.
“So, despite some talk of interest from Arsenal and a swap deal involving Takehiro Tomiyasu, I don’t think Arsenal will invest big money there.”
Coincidentally, Man Utd have also been tipped to look into part-exchange deals to sign Dumfries. However, their strategy won’t pay off either.
