Arsenal are reported to be monitoring Nicolo Zaniolo’s contract talks at Roma, with a view to signing the attacking midfielder. Zaniolo’s deal at Roma runs until 2024, but extension talks at the Stadio Olimpico have reportedly stalled.

This might open up the door for the 23-year-old to join the Gunners for a reduced price next summer.Serie A rivals Juventus are also reported to be interested in Zaniolo’s situation if he does not commit to a further stay in the Italian capital.

It is thought Jose Mourinho’s side are not meeting Zaniolo’s salary demands, or an appearance bonus proposal, according to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato.

Zaniolo wants to be paid €4m (£3.5m) a year, while Roma have apparently only offered €3.5m (£3.1m).

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is looking for additional attacking options at Arsenal, alongside Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.

It would also be getting one over their north London rivals, as Tottenham were reportedly keen on Zaniolo, but failed to secure his services earlier this year.

Zaniolo joined the Giallorossi from Inter Milan for around £4m in July 2018, and has made 118 appearances for the club in the last four years.

He also scored the winner in last season’s Europa Conference League final, helping Roma to seal the inaugural version of UEFA’s latest club tournament.
