Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was back to his best as the Gunners registered a comfortable 5-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The north London giants required a victory over Forest to reclaim their top spot in the standings and they managed to do so in a convincing manner.
Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring after just five minutes. Substitute Reiss Nelson bagged the club’s second and third goals shortly after the half-time break.
Nelson, who was making his first Premier League appearance of the season, went on to provide an assist for Partey, who scored from the edge of the box.
The Ghanaian replicated his goal against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this term. Martin Odegaard completed the rout with the Gunners’ fifth in the 78th minute.
Nelson was obviously the man of the match after his terrific showing off the bench, but there were several other stand-out performers against Steve Cooper’s side.
Partey was definitely one of those. The midfielder had a difficult second half at St Mary’s last weekend, but he definitely ran the show against Forest today.
The 29-year-old had a stunning 126 touches against Forest while completing 104 out of his 113 passes attempted. He also won 100 per cent of his duels.
Partey was guilty of losing possession in key areas against Southampton last weekend, but he looked more assured with his performance against Forest.
The midfielder was definitely back to his best for the Gunners. The onus is now on keeping him fit such that the club can continue their push for an unlikely title.
The former Atletico man has been unscathed since his early season injury. Hopefully, he will come through the upcoming World Cup with Ghana in a similar shape.
Arsenal should also be pro-active during the January transfer window. They must sign another quality defensive midfielder to make up for future injuries.
